My Neighborhood Trees

When we choose to go for a walk after day-break, the  benefits are numerous.... We can marvel looking at so many  creations of Nature.  Among them,  the tall, magnificent and majestic trees certainly catch our attention first.  We come across a variety of trees as we walk.... The common trees of Madras are..... Indian beech, Indian almond, Rain tree, Copper pod, Neem, Peepal, Gulmohar, etc. And summer is the best period to watch .... with most of them in Bloom, offering a spectacular sight to the discerning eye. Besides the common trees, there are  rare ones too, such as Ashoka (Saraka indica), Arjuna and Silk cotton trees. There are  also the  conspicuous  Cassia trees, with several species. Of which, Cassia fistula -- the Golden showers tree being the most popular, ornamental and visible. But pink cassia (Cassia javanica, in picture) is a rare tree in my neighbourhood, now in bloom. It is basically a garden tree -- because of its attractive crimson and pink flowers in bunches. It is also known as Rainbow showers tree. So look out for this pleasing tree this summer... You can one at Prithivi Avenue, Abhiramapuram.

  4. Yes it's a rare tree. I have not seen another so far . One can go miles to see it's attractive bloom. In that house where I saw this tree, the next tree in their garden is another rare one Saraca indica ... the Ashoka tree
